Our Mission:
To improve the standard of living and to alleviate the financial hardships of graduate students working in the Department of Immunology & Microbiology at UBC.
Scholarship Description:
One (1) annual payment of $6,000.00, subject to meeting the Scholarship Eligibility Criteria.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process:
Third and more senior year’s students enrolled in a graduate program at the Department of Immunology & Microbiology at UBC are eligible to apply. The applicant must submit:
- Evidence of financial need, supported by the most recent available tax return and/or an unverified income summary for the year preceding the application.
- A two hundred (200) word personal statement demonstrating applicant’s sharing of Dr. D. Apel’s view of the purpose of research as the advancement of human learning and the applicant’s vision of his/her own place in scientific research.
The Scholarship may not be awarded every year, at the Scholarship Committee’s discretion.
Applications must be submitted to Department of Microbiology & Immunology Graduate Program Coordinator at micbgrad@interchange.ubc.ca by February 28.
The Award will be presented on or about April 29.
The availability of the Scholarship will be announced at the appropriate venues at UBC.

Memorial Lecture Series:
In addition to the Scholarship a series of memorial lectures is sponsored by the Dmitry Apel Memorial Lectureship Fund and hosted by the UBC Department of Microbiology & Immunology. The lectures are delivered by the renowned research scientists in the field. The lecture is announced in advance and takes place at the UBC on the date of the Memorial Scholarship Award presentation.
